To Head gear or not that is the question!?

Since the beginning of combativeness there has been some forms of head protection.Lets take a look at some warriors of the past and present.

Samurais - Some of the earliest Japanese samurais had amour that that where turtle shells later they transitioned into leather and further down the road became Bronze which was quite opposite of our Western warriors armour that was steel.Full body armour seemed to consist of more then 20 pieces and could take as long as a year to make. The head gear was Also very protective ( had to be able to withstand swords! ) and ornaments on the helmets represented intimidation efforts.

Medieval knights - Helmets during the 10 and 11th centuries had head protection and later into the 12th became more full faced with air ones so one could breath properly.Made or high quality steel these bad boys could take a BLOW or two. By the 14th century there was a a visor like piece that could be raised so some words could be exchanged with out a muffled echo. Lets also take into consideration the Weapons being used had great weight to them which would increase the damage effect!

Army- helmet's Are a critical part of there job and everywhere they go it goes with them! at the start of the 20 century the Army's thought helmets where a sign weakness and in 1914 most army's did even like the idea of having them ( sounds like us mma guys! ). Later on realized they need some protection for there head. Not to mention that the head is a vital area and needs the most protection along with neck and should protection.

Boxing- 1890's where the official start of boxing and headgear was not on the menu for these tuff guys! Id be willing to guess concussions where though.Later on came headgear, hand wraps, and groin protection. There are still head injuries today it can't be As many as the past though.

Conclusion
I'd have to say these warriors where smart about their gear choice because they had-have to live to fight another day. When I was younger( I'm only 27 far from old ) I'd always wear protective gear because my schools pushed that on me.Recently over the past couple years I steered off this road and started to Spar ( full contact mma, boxing, muay thai,)more so.In those short few years I accumulated some pretty Dumb injuries that could of been prevented being that id gear up properly. The list includes concussions, broken nose, multiply black eyes and split eye brows all at the expense to feel" TUFFER".A trainer once told me" why buy good gloves and not GOOD head gear your protecting your head more so then your hands hitting your partner! This all made complete sense since then Ive been very diligent about my gear and wont even consider sparring without
Money well spent right here ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
